Next-generation IT platform for life-cycle project management

Project description:

This research aims to build a next-generation IT platform for life-cycle project management for the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry and integrate it into a broader smart city framework. Key components of this project include: creating 3D as-planned building models (e.g., BIM models) based on existing 2D planning documents; leveraging massive visual data such as images and videos to produce as-built building models; performing model analytics to achieve automation and visualization of project management concerning ongoing operations, situational awareness, claims analysis, accident investigation, facility management, etc.; extending the models to incorporate a wider range of infrastructure and data such as GIS, social and economic information, to create urban simulator; performing simulations to evaluate regional and economic development impacts. The project will use state-of-art deep learning mechanism for computer vision; augmented reality for human computer interaction, and blockchain technology for transparency and accountability.

Candidate requirements:

This is a very hands-on research project. The candidate must be extremely self-motivated, capable of doing independent study, comfortable with exploring the latest technologies in a host of inter-disciplinary areas.

Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas is required: Computer Vision, Machine Learning (Deep Learning), Data Analytics, 3D Modeling, AR/VR, GIS, BIM, Blockchain, Construction Management, computer programing.
